THE HIDDEN TREASURE

THE HIDDEN TREASURE
(AN EXPOSITORY TO BOOK READING)

What is Treasure?
Treasure is a collection of valuable things such as gold, silver, and jewellery. A treasure is something highly valued.
The story was told of a man who had a piece of land with treasures of gold buried in it but he never discovered it. During the hard times he sold it and went in search of greener pastures elsewhere. A wise man sold all he has, bought the land, dug up the treasure and found himself a fortune. We can choose to be that wise man today by investing in books and building a library for ourselves.
Of all books written the bible is the greatest book ever. It is the oldest book with the latest information. No wonder Jesus says that "Man shall not live by bread alone, but on every word that proceed out of the mouth of God"(Matt4:4). It is the traveller's map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's compass, the soldier's sword, and the christian's charter.
Daniel 9:2 says
In the first year of his reign, I Daniel understood by books the number of the years whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of jerusalem. Daniel learnt by reading books.
Hosea 4:6 says
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have fogotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
God recognises the importance of reading books to acquire knowledge. It is not a surprise He said "I reject you from being a priest to me" because you have rejected kowledge.
Being well-read places you in the small percentages of people who have a broader perspective of life- the movers and shakers of the world. Why? Because readers have superior language and thinking skills. They also know the life outside their narrow slice of it. They can see the big picture and keep a sense of perspective because they have read enough to expand their minds beyond the parameters of their own lives.
Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers. Why not befriend a book today.
We read to know that we are not alone. Through books we can have conversations with the minds of other people (even God)- how they think, what they believe, what they value and more importantly, we can find out more about ourselves.
It marvels me how we no longer take Bible Study serious. An ample time set aside to learn more about God from the greatest book ever- the bible.
A rule for predicting future success is to know the number of books in the home. Readers are leaders. Book teaches you what no body else would teach you. It exposes you to your real self- which is the greatest weapon of a man.
If you can read, you can learn anything. When ever you want to learn something new look for a book on it. Reading can transport you to different countries and cultures. It can take you on a great adventure.
Reading opens doors to places you never knew exist. Books have the power to take you into the future. Books make you know something you never knew how to go about. The worst crime ever is the one of not reading books. The failure to read good books darkens vision and strengthens mediocrity.
Reading good books enable the mind to think in making good decisions. It is food for the soul. Good books provide guidance to people on issues they have not yet been exposed to in life. It expands the mind on the ability to analyze issues well.
Reading good books keep your brain working and keeps you up to date on things happening around you. Reading expands your imagination and your knowledge.
Books can take you to times and places thet you could never go in real life. Our spirit is getting younger everyday as we are renewed by reading books. The day you stop reading you start growing old. The greatest gap in the world is the gap between knowing and doing. Read to learn and commit yourself to do what you have learnt. The more you read, the more you know. The more you know, the smarter you grow. The smarter you grow, the stronger your voice when speaking your mind or  making your choice.
Let me conclude by asking this question: Have you read a book today?
